Before an intimate group of sixty friends and family, under the towering forest canopy at Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse, on July 2, 2019, Breezy and Matthew exchanged their vows, rings and “I dos.”
“Matt and I met in our first year of university when we had a mutual group of friends (several of the groomsmen) who introduced us to one another. The first time I met Matt, he told me all about the worst movies in existence (I'm looking at you, “Rubber!”) and he was hilarious. It turned out we were in the same calculus class, which he excelled at and I survived (thanks to him). Shout out to our good friend and best man, Nic, for helping bring us together.”
Breezy prioritized her budget for irreplaceable items, including her photography, and being creative, took care of the rest of the wedding mostly on her own, as well as with the help of her sister. Guests received home made jam, romantic lanterns decorated the forest floor and the bride crafted an ingenious seating chart:
“I found a big over-sized lantern that had glass panels on all sides that I turned into a seating chart by hand-writing names and table numbers on it. My sister made all of the wooden signs (staining and painting words on), which is a HUGE task. Making the signs was exhausting for her, but she was determined to make them for me, so I am endlessly thankful for all of the effort she put into them.”
The wedding theme was "romantic west coast" - with light and peachy pinks and navy blue as the base colours, to compliment the forest greens. Growing up, both Matt and Breezy spent a lot of time camping and hiking, so were both drawn to having their ceremony in the forest and building their wedding theme around the setting.
“Although we wanted our ceremony in the forest, we had not thought to bring the forest into our reception! This idea is fully credited to our florists Blooms and Co. Victoria , who suggested the idea of using west coast greenery on our tables and local blooms in the bouquets. Everything looked perfect - from the pea blossoms in my bouquet to the moss and pine-cones tucked into the forest greenery on the reception tables. The cake topper even matched the rest of the greenery!”
The highlight of the reception was a surprise performance by the groomsmen. Nic the best man (and cupid!) concluded his personal speech with a well-practiced acoustic version of the song, "The Book of Love.”
“Nic played the banjo (which Matt has always teased him about), and two of the groomsmen joined in on acoustic guitar, with one of them singing. We never expected something like this, especially considering that they practiced for months before the wedding. All three of the guys are our previous roommates and they know us very well - their goal was to bring me (Breezy) to tears, which they certainly accomplished!”
The couple also took the time to surprise their guests with their choreographed dance routine. They employed the expertise of North Vancouver dance instructor, Alex Bleim.
“Matt and I have never been exceptional dancers, and we both recognize this. For this reason, we really wanted a choreographed, personal dance to impress our guests! We practiced so much that we were incredibly comfortable with the dance, spins and fancy handwork and all. Matt sang most of the song to me while we danced, and we had no worries about timings.”
The revelry continued into the evening with Hey Mr DJ filling the dancefloor!
“We contacted Rich super last minute to help us with our wedding, and we are so glad that we did. He was so accommodating and professional, and the perfect amount laid back to keep us low-stress. He did a great job as MC, and he had our whole family dancing at the end of the night! One of my aunts told me she wouldn't normally dance at a wedding, but the atmosphere was just perfect and she couldn't help herself! She wasn't the only person to express that sentiment, and we have Rich to thank for that.”
